Nightclub and bar bookings

This page is for the person booking the room rather than for someone planning a party. Here is what you get, what we need, and what we do not claim.

Ricky Bobby Band is a live Austin three-piece playing covers across six decades, with two frontmen trading lead vocals and guitar, and three-part harmony. We carry a full PA and stage lighting or plug into house, and we structure sets around your night rather than around ours.

What the band is

Three players: drums, bass and guitar, with Rik and Bob swapping guitar and bass through the night and both singing lead. Sonny drums and sings behind them, so there is a lead vocal and two harmonies on every chorus rather than one voice carrying the room.

The material runs 1967 to 2018 deliberately, in the original keys at the original tempos. Nothing is transposed down and nothing is a medley of the recognisable parts.

Who is playing

Rik Avalos and Bob Michaels came up on the same Sixth Street circuit in the nineties, playing the same Austin clubs a night apart, Rik fronting Dirty Oliver and Bob on lead guitar for the Rave and Slippery Fish. Sonny Sanchez has drummed in Sounds Under Radio since co-founding it in 2004. Between the three there is more than eighty years of stage time, nearly all of it in this town.

What that buys a room is boring and valuable: we start on time, we read a floor, and there is no dead air while somebody hunts for a cable.

Sets

The usual shape is up to three sets, about forty-five minutes of music each. For a club night that is a starting point, not a condition. Longer sets with fewer breaks, four shorter ones, or a single long set all work; tell us the room's rhythm and we will build to it.

The full running order, every song with the artist who recorded it first, is public on the setlist page. You can see exactly what the night sounds like before you book it, which is not true of most acts you are sent.

Production

We own a full PA and our own stage lighting and haul it to every show, so a room without production is not a problem. Where the house has a system and an engineer, we plug in and work with them.

Practical numbers for load-in, footprint and power draw live in how much space and power a live band needs and how long a band needs to load in.

What we do not claim

Worth stating plainly on a page aimed at people who get pitched every day.

  • We do not publish a draw figure, because we have not measured one honestly and a number invented for a pitch is worth nothing to you.
  • We do not list venues as endorsements.
  • We do not claim a residency we do not have.
  • There is no live performance video up yet. It is being shot. Until it exists we would rather say so than send you something that is not the band playing.

Getting in touch

Send the date, the room, the set times you need and whether the house supplies production. Tell us if there is a genre the room expects or one it will not take, because we would rather find that out now than at eleven o'clock, and the setlist is long enough to lean either way.

If you want to hear the band first, the setlist and photos and video pages are the honest version of what exists today. Booking goes through the same form as everything else, and it reaches us directly rather than an agency.

Common questions

Does the band bring its own PA and lights?

Yes. We own a full PA and our own stage lighting and haul it to every show, so a room without production is not a problem. Where the house has a system and an engineer, we plug in and work with them.

Can you play longer sets for a club night?

Yes. Up to three sets at about forty-five minutes each is the usual shape, not a condition. Longer sets with fewer breaks, four shorter ones or a single long set all work. Tell us the room's rhythm and we build to it.

What does the band play?

Covers across six decades, 1967 to 2018, in the original keys at the original tempos. The full running order with the original recording artist next to every title is public on the setlist page, so you can see exactly what the night sounds like before booking.

Send the date, the room and the set times.
